Merchant Oyster Company, a northeast style oyster bar and chowder house, is preparing to open their first brick-and-mortar location in 2017. The restaurant will be located at the corner of 42nd street and Butler in Lawrenceville.
The new oyster bar is courtesy of Chef Dennis Marron, formerly of the Kimpton Hotel Group, and will feature steamers, mussels, lobster rolls, and other northeastern-inspired dishes. And of course there will be plenty of oysters!
According to Marron, Merchant Oyster Company is “a coastal inspired oyster bar serving the freshest and best representations of oysters from Maine to the Chesapeake Bay, the West Coast and Europe.”
Although the building will be new, serving oysters will be nothing new for Marron and his team. They’ve been doing pop-ups over the past few years and have quickly become a hot commodity for Pittsburghers.
For those looking to try out the new restaurant, the official address is 4129 Butler Street, Pittsburgh 15201. They will be open for both lunch and dinner.
In addition, Pittsburgh Food News has discovered that Marron is also planning to open another restaurant in 2017. In a Facebook post, the chef announced the plans of a second restaurant called or, The Whale.
“As most of you know I have been working on opening my first Pittsburgh restaurant (Merchant Oyster Co.) for all of 2016. I am anticipating an early 2017 opening,” Marron said. “In addition to that I am happy to announce I am also working on a second restaurant (or, The Whale) that will open in the Distrikt Hotel downtown Pittsburgh in the old Salvation Army building. I am very excited about both of these projects and can’t wait to see you all at both!”
